Wondering if your child shows signs of autism can be overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. The process typically starts with a standardized screening tool to identify "red flags," followed by a comprehensive evaluation by a licensed specialist. Our home-based ABA therapy programs are designed to fit naturally into your family’s routine.
At Skill Builders ABA, we guide you from the initial question marks to a clear, clinically-verified diagnosis, ensuring your child gets the support they deserve as early as possible.

We know you have questions about your child's development and the road ahead. Here are answers to the most frequent inquiries we receive about the differences between screening and diagnosis, insurance coverage, and starting therapy.
No. An online screener (like the M-CHAT-R) is a preliminary tool used to identify the risk of autism or developmental delays. It is not a medical test. A formal medical diagnosis can only be provided by a licensed specialist—such as a developmental pediatrician, psychologist, or neurologist—after a comprehensive, in-person evaluation.
In most cases, yes. All 50 states require certain insurance plans to cover autism treatment, including ABA therapy. However, coverage specifics (like copays and deductibles) vary by plan. Our admission team specializes in insurance verification; we will contact your provider directly to confirm your benefits and explain your coverage clearly before services begin.
The timeline depends on the type of evaluation. A medical diagnostic evaluation usually involves 1–2 comprehensive appointments. Once a diagnosis is confirmed and you contact Skill Builders, our internal ABA skills assessment is much faster. Because we have no waitlists, we aim to complete your intake and assessment within days, not months.
Generally, yes. Most insurance companies require a formal referral or prescription from a physician or diagnostician to authorize ABA therapy services. If you do not have one yet, our intake coordinator can guide you on exactly what to ask your pediatrician for to get the process started.
A diagnosis is simply a roadmap that opens the door to support services. The next step is usually to seek early intervention therapies, such as ABA, Speech, or Occupational Therapy. If you receive a diagnosis, contact us immediately. We will review the report, discuss your goals, and build a personalized plan to help your child thrive.
