Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is the lead clinician responsible for developing and supervising your child’s individualized ABA treatment plan. BCBAs have advanced graduate-level training in behavior analysis and must adhere to strict ethical guidelines to ensure treatment is effective, respectful, and data-driven.

The BCBA evaluates your child’s strengths and needs, conducts assessments, writes goals, and determines the appropriate teaching strategies. They oversee the Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) who work directly with your child and review progress through continuous data collection.

BCBAs play a central role in collaborating with families and other professionals, ensuring that therapy targets meaningful and functional skills that align with your child's development and your family’s goals.

Examples

  • A BCBA observes a therapy session, reviews data, and adjusts a teaching program.
  • A BCBA writes an individualized plan that focuses on communication and daily living skills.
  • A BCBA supervises an RBT and provides coaching to improve intervention quality.

Why It Matters

The BCBA ensures your child’s therapy remains ethical, personalized, and grounded in scientific evidence. Their oversight guarantees that strategies are effective, progress is measurable, and goals are functional—not arbitrary or one-size-fits-all.

Strong BCBA supervision leads to better outcomes, greater consistency across providers, and positive long-term skill development.
