How will I know if my child is actually making progress?

ABA relies on systematic, daily data collection to monitor a child’s progress across all program goals. Therapists record responses, skill acquisition, independence levels, and behavior patterns during every session. This data is then reviewed by the BCBA to evaluate whether interventions are effective or need adjustment.

Families should receive regular updates on progress, ideally through visual graphs, summaries, or meetings where the BCBA explains growth, challenges, and next steps. Transparent data practices are essential for ensuring treatment remains individualized and evidence-based.

Real progress can be seen not only in numbers but also in improvements at home, school, and community environments as skills begin to generalize.

Examples

  • Reviewing graphs showing increased independent communication over several weeks.
  • Observing that a child now follows multi-step instructions at home as well as in therapy.
